DownloadIn honor of Black History Month, we invite Central Ohio youth, ages 13-19 years old, to participate in Community Through Our Lens: Youth Photography Exhibition. This effort aims to share youth photography related to the black experience in Central Ohio.
This is a juried competition. Eighteen pictures will be selected for this exhibition and community calendar. The awards ccremony will now be hosted at Poindexter Village Drum Circle, and an 18-month calendar will be created for the 2023-2024 school year. A $100 cash award will be presented to the student winners. One student winner will be selected as the cover photograph winner and will receive the inaugural Kojo Kamau Photo Excellence Award named after the legendary Columbus photographer, Kojo Kamau.
Photographs should be original and taken in 2023. Your photo will need a name and and artist statement. All participants will need to select one of the following themes:

The award ceremony will now be held Saturday, August 12, at 2pm
at Champion Park at Poindexter Village.

Renowned documentary photographer Kojo Kamau devoted a lifetime to photographing positive images reflecting the African American experience, people of color. and a commitment to community, He was an advocate for the arts and strongly believed, to always remember "What you do today is tomorrow's history"
